Mayor of London's NYE Fireworks: Graphic Projection
This was an amazing opportunity to create Europe’s largest ever animated light projection onto the Shell building in central London, for the 2009 New Year’s Eve celebrations, created and organised by Jack Morton Worldwide. I worked with an projection animation designer who input the series of 12 graphic animations, each lasting around one minute, that worked alongside the London Eye lighting and Radio One music sequence, in the build up to the midnight firework display. The stories for each sequence were celebratory and uplifting, for example showing graphic moire patterns with freeze frame figures, dancing, floating away on balloons, watering blooming gardens and breakdancing. These story sequences gave way to an animated ticking cog graphic and a super-size countdown clock in the last few minutes before midnight, creating a roar from the crown and anticipation of some great fireworks.
